Thank the federal pollies calling out the mindless release of oceans to fossil fuel companies

Australia's oceans and unique landscapes are under threat from the expansion of fossil fuels. Destructive fossil fuel projects are still being forced on Australian communities—and we’re stuck with the consequences forever.

Australia's oceans and unique landscapes are under threat from the expansion of fossil fuels. Destructive fossil fuel projects are still being forced on Australian communities—and we’re stuck with the consequences forever.

But year after year, Australian governments back the fossil fuel industry over community, by releasing swathes of ocean floor for the expansion of oil and gas exploitation. Communities are saying no to fossil fuel developments, but governments are backing this climate-wrecking industry, over people and nature.

It is deeply disappointing that the new Albanese government is continuing to fumble for excuses to justify the continuation of this mindless fossil fuel expansion. But there are bright lights on the horizon—there are new voices in parliament who understand that this needs to stop.

Sophie Scamps MP, Senator David Pocock, Senator Whish-Wilson, Dr Monique Ryan MP, Kate Chaney MP, Adam Bandt MP, Zoe Daniel MP and Zali Steggall MP—all important members of the new federal parliament—spoke out in August against the acreage release and a massive new seismic proposal the Wilderness Society exposed off the coasts of South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania.

Will you send an email to them today to thank them for standing up for communities, climate and the oceans? Your message will also encourage them to continue to call out the complete inconsistency between effective climate action and this mindless release of new fossil fuel acreage.
