Coles and Woolies: you need to see this

Woolworths has quietly gutted its no deforestation commitment. It has no clear plan to address Australia’s #1 driver of deforestation: beef.

Will you add your name to call on Woolworths to act urgently to protect forests—not just say hollow words?

Dear Woolworths,

Have you seen the Wilderness Society's research revealing that beef is the biggest driver of deforestation in Queensland.

Queensland is in the midst of a deforestation crisis. Every four minutes an area of forest and bush the size of the Sydney Opera House is bulldozed to make way for beef production. The research shows that 64% of deforestation in Queensland over the last four years was linked to beef. That’s over one million hectares in total.

Companies that buy beef from Queensland, like supermarkets, have significant deforestation risk in their supply chains. Unless you take action, your companies could be complicit in the destruction of threatened species habitat, damage to the Great Barrier Reef and climate pollution.

Alongside tens of thousands of concerned Aussies, I’m calling on your supermarket to implement a robust science-based deforestation-free commitment–and only buy and sell beef free from forest and bushland destruction.
